Above and Below the Waterline

Grab your paddles. Pick up your board. Dive into the rich blue waters of the Sea of Cortez. Known as a haven for windsurfers, the wide bay remains a prime environment for scuba diving, kayaking, sailing and many other activities. Nearby is the only living coral reef in western North America, teeming with tropical fish and perfect for snorkeling. Trained instructors offer windsurfing, water skiing and wakeboarding classes for the more daring sports enthusiasts. And for those who prefer to just relax, the beaches are ideal for stretching out under a palapa or taking an evening stroll.

When making plans for your aquatic adventure, keep in mind that many visitors to The Bay consider Isla Espíritu Santo to be one of Baja’s most majestic marine environments. Made up of two islands, Espíritu Santo and Isla Partida are separated at high tide but joined together when the water recedes. Known as the most popular island playground in Baja, many of the 800 aquatic species present in the Sea of Cortez are found here along with several wrecks, wall dives and undersea canyons, making it an ideal location for sport divers.
