The Bay recently hosted Semana Santa (Easter) festivities at the public beach near Bahía. Although about 1,000 visitors came to celebrate – as part of a great, family tradition in the region – the environment remained as spotless as ever. That is because Bahía has a dedicated clean-up crew that worked tirelessly during the festivities, just as they do all year round. Along with specialized support from the municipal and state government, this crew distributed leaflets reminding visitors of the importance of ecological stewardship. They also gave awareness talks, provided many trash receptacles, and – of course – did a lot of cleaning up.
The Bay’s clean-up team is constantly reviewing the needs to protect the pristine environment. It guards against groundwater run-off into the clear waters of the Sea of Cortez. And, in general, it keeps the beach spotless.
